Sashiko, the ancient Japanese art of mending, has been elevated by Japanese artisans into something contemporary and beautiful--and now share their heritage skills with those of us outside of Japan. Sashiko can elevate the simplest of running stitches into an intrinsic part of a larger piece. You cannot separate brush strokes from their paintings; but you can take each individual sashiko stitch and call it art.
